Oral Health

Accordance with an oral health therapist's approved education, training, experience, and competence, the practice of oral health therapy is the provision of oral health assessment, diagnosis, management, treatment, and prevention of any disease, disorder, or condition of the orofacial complex and associated structures. To achieve and maintain oral health as an essential component of overall health, key activities include oral health education, disease prevention, and oral health promotion for people and communities. The competencies of the oral health therapist are included in the scope of practice. Given that these responsibilities have an impact on clinical practice and public safety, practicing in this setting goes beyond clinical oral health therapeutic practice to encompass education, research, and management.
